I find old netbooks make great laptops for performing system administration tasks in remote locations or bringing to conferences.
It's simple. Nobody wants them, I have only paid shipping price for my Latitude 2110, and nobody will bother stealing it. Even if it gets stolen or lost, I don't care since I can buy another one since the drive is encrypted and only has a Kali Linux installation, no sensitive data.
The intel Atom N470 that powers this machine and the maximum 2048mBytes of DDR2 memory are not going to get you very far, obviously, especially with Windows. That is not much of a problem for me since I use a free and open source operating system instead of proprietary garbage. I have Kali Linux installed on this machine, and that gets the job done perfectly. Oh, and the keyboard is pretty good too. It even decodes HD h.264 video in real time, altho going above 720p is useless, unless you use something other than the integrated 1366*768 panel. So 720p it is for video in MPV.
My personal preference is the DELL Latitude 2110
ThinkPad X201
when I eventually get my hands on it. Overall seems like a good machine.
ThinkPad X230 is a staple classic.
